Anniversaries
The papers marked dates: seventy and seventy-five years since the Easter Rising, ten years since the civil rights march in Derry and since internment, the Lockout at sixty, Marx at a hundred. They are gathered here by the last digit of the year in which the event happened, because that is the digit its round anniversaries fall on: the Rising, in 1916, comes round again in 2026. Within a group, the dates run in calendar order.
A text rarely names the year it remembers: it says “ten years after” and leaves the sum to the reader. The year is worked out here and each date checked; where the text gets it wrong, the real date is given and the note says so. Only texts that mark a date are listed, not those that mention one in passing. The collection is small, and so is this list.
