Names come from the by-lines and signatures on the scans, read by machine and checked by hand: a by-line counts only if it reads as a person’s name, and misreadings are corrected (John McAnulty was read five ways). Most pieces in these papers were unsigned, and some by-lines will have been missed. Names are as printed; pen names are not resolved here.
