The Connolly Bookshop, the main production office for the ' Socialist Republic ' was raided by a joint force of RUC/British Army last August. ( See report in our last issue ). On that occasion, along with the arrest of two members of the edtsorial .board, massive damage was caused to the premises and contents. Office equipment was sabotaged and almost all of our literature stock was so badly damaged as tu be unsaleable. Duplicating ink ‘had been poured over many of the books and papers.
As a result, we are lodging a claim against the Northern treland Office for 4,000 pounds oux estimate of the cost of the damage done. In addition we have taken out a writ against the RUC for the return of documents which they are still holding. In particular, we are anxious to get back the: list of subscribers to tiie ' Socialize Republic ' REPUBLIC and the files of the James Connolly Society.
If proof were needed that the sole purpose of the raid was to disrupt the political activities of anti-imperialist militants them the fact that this ° material has not been returned > provides it. These documents are of no other use to the RUC or British Army.
The arrest of Danny Morris~ on, editor of Republican News' . shows that Mason's campaign against the opposition press in the North has not let up. The need to wage a campaign in defence cf the opposition press remains an urgent necessity. A first ' step is to demand the dropping of all charges against Danny Morrison and the other ' Republican News ' comrades. aren
