We accept the analysis of the capitalist state put forward by lenin. We don't accept that the state is neutral and therefore don't believe that electoral victories or parliamentary reforms will bring about the revolution, though they can play a propaganda role in educating the workers We believe that workers have the right to defend themselves against the violence of imperialism. However we do not accept the ideology of militarism- the belief that armed groups can substitute themse.-res for the masses and win freedom foi them.
We believe in the building of an organised and experienced leadership in 2 Marzist Party based on the lenini:' theory of Party Organisation.
We are Internationalists and believe tuat Irish works s should actively support stripvies throughout the world and learn from them. The M.S.R. are members of the 4th Interrational an International trotsxyist organisatiqns P.D. not such a clearly defined position, although we informally agree on the theory of permsnent revolution, and on the fact that the Russiati Revoluticn has degenerated.
This is one of the wajor issues around which discussion will take place curing the fusion process and within the fused organisation. The Socialist Republic will report these discussions as well as other Bspects of the fusion process. In future issues we hope to carry articles explaining the aims of the paper in depth.
Socialist Republic aims to do more than report and comment on events as they occur. We see the paper as a weapon in the ctruge gle.It will use the combined experience of the members and supporters of the two organisat~ion to analyse struggles in the anti-imperialist ghettos, the trade unions, and in the student and womens movements. It will use this analysis to .put. forward a strategy for militants fighting in these areas, to link the struggle in one area with that in another and build a framework around which socialists can organise. It will also provide information on workers throughout the world and provide a platform for de -bate within the anti-imperialist movement. All these elements will be directed to one end ~the destruction of imperialism to the building of a Socialist Republic.
