The decisions taken at the conference are now being put to the test. We are confident of their relevance to the immediate and long term interests of the Irish working class.
Though we are a small organisation our history and tradition gives us,a basis for helping to lead the anti-imperialist struggle to eventual victory by strengthening the forces of Marxism in Ireland. If you agree with our analysis you should join will be sent to you should you require it. on a murder charge of killing two RUC men. Such. was the obvious frame up Join our organisation. Further information AVOCA PARK, In a hard hitting statement Peoples Democracy councillor for West Belfast, John McAnulty condemned Paddy Devlin’s ‘‘support for RUC” petition to Belfast City Council. Councillor McAnulty asked where Devlin’s petitions had been when the RUC had murdered his constituents with plastic _ bullets or had broken up peaceful protests otitside the ‘City Hall, and pointed out that Devlin’s support for tne RUC had been rejected by his constituents in the May local government elections when he had only held onto his seat by scraping in.
PD, CONNOLLY BOOKSHOP ANDERSONSTOWN, Councillor McAnulty concluded:
“Clearly Devlin has learnt nothing from his study of trade union history despite the publicity surrounding the publication of his book. We reject his sham socialism and his pretended independence which is nothing more than subservience to the RUC and an alliance with unionists. PD’s policy is quite clear — we call for the disbandment of the RUC and UDR and condemn the repressive policies they carry out. We call on Devlin to resign, | as his views are totally unrepresentative of his constituents.and invite him to participate in a debate on this issue in the constituency which we will be happy to organise.”’
SDLP CAPITULATION Devlin has failed to take up the challenge. At the City Council meeting the pro-RUC motion was exposed by the two PD councillors and the IRSP’s Sean Flynn. Atten- ~ tion must also be given to the craven capitulation of the SDLP who abstained on the motion. Presumably this means they don’t care one way or the other when their constituents are murdered, tortured or intimidated by the RUC.
