This issue of the /rish Citizen contams only four pages because much of the editorial material which had been submitted for it, as well as whole pages already laid out for the printer, was seized in a Special Branch raid on the home of the editor—the second such raid made on the pretext of investigation concerning the. Aldershot explosion. The purpose of removing such items as diaries, documents, and journals, and as was done in many of the 60 raids in London and the south of England, is quite obviously intended tc improve the police’s so-called intelligence of those individuals and groups who are attempting to mount political resistance in Britain to the bourgeoisie’s campaign of military terror and suppression in the Six Counties. Yet it does not require much “intelligence” to appreciate that the removal of political and editorial material hampers the production of a newspaper and the operation of a solidarity campaign. ISC has always recognised that by challenging the interests of the bourgeoisie in Ireland it would be plunging a knife into the quivering heart of the bourgeoisie’s metropolitan base. Attempts at repression is the predictable response. The next issue of the /rish Citizen will contain a full eight pages.
